ELK CAMP 2026
Step into the mountains with hunters who live and breathe the backcountry. This isn’t just another seminar — it’s an immersive elk hunting experience led by Matt Hartsky of Backbone Unlimited and Saxton Hartsky of Wildborn Outdoors. Together, we’re bringing over three decades of hard-earned hunting knowledge, paired with modern, boots-on-the-ground tactics, to create a camp built for one purpose: making you a better elk hunter.
If you’re ready to sharpen your edge, push your limits, and learn the strategies that actually put elk in your sights, this is your invitation to join us at ELK CAMP 2026!
ABOUT ELK CAMP
We built our Elk Camp with one goal in mind — to bridge the gap between where hunters are and where they want to be. Too many hunters spend years learning the hard way, missing opportunities, or walking away from the mountains frustrated. We designed this camp to change that.
Led by father-and-son team Matt and Saxton Hartsky, Elk Camp combines proven experience with fresh perspective. Matt brings over 34 years of Western big game hunting and a lifetime of coaching grit, strength, and backcountry preparation. Saxton brings the relentless drive of the next generation — a successful elk hunter who has carved his own path with Wildborn Outdoors and built a reputation for consistently getting it done in tough country.
This camp isn’t theory. It’s not about sitting through lectures or flipping through slides. It’s about stepping into the field, breaking down real terrain, calling elk with confidence, and leaving with the mindset and skills to succeed on your own.
MEET THE COACHES

Matt Hartsky — Backbone Unlimited
For more than three decades, Matt has lived the Western hunting lifestyle. From chasing elk deep in the Rockies to coaching athletes in strength, conditioning, and mental toughness, he’s built a reputation for blending hard-earned experience with a teacher’s mindset. Through Backbone Unlimited, Matt has grown one of the fastest-rising platforms in the hunting world — dedicated to helping hunters train harder, hunt smarter, and never settle.

Saxton Hartsky — Wildborn Outdoors
Saxton represents the next wave of Western hunters. Founder of Wildborn Outdoors, he has built his own success as a consistent elk killer and content creator. His drive, modern tactics, and ability to adapt in high-pressure situations have earned him respect as a hunter well beyond his years. Saxton brings fresh eyes, sharp instincts, and a relentless passion for elk hunting that connects directly with today’s generation of backcountry hunters.
Together, Matt and Saxton blend experience and innovation — the wisdom of decades in the field with the hunger and sharp edge of modern success. At Elk Camp, you’ll learn from both perspectives and walk away with a toolkit of strategies that simply work.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Elk Camp is designed to shorten the learning curve and give you the tools to hunt with confidence. Over the course of camp, you’ll gain practical, field-tested knowledge that you can put to use the moment you step into the mountains.
Here’s what we’ll cover:
Understanding Elk Behavior
Learn how elk think, move, and survive throughout the season — from early September bugles to late-October survival mode.
E-Scouting & Terrain Breakdown
We’ll teach you how to read maps, identify travel corridors, feeding areas, bedding zones, and pressure points long before you lace up your boots.
Calling with Confidence
Not just when to call, but why to call — and how to use your bugle and cow calls to create realistic, effective setups that pull elk in close.
Backcountry Fitness & Preparation
Success in the mountains starts long before the hunt. You’ll learn the physical training, nutrition, and mindset it takes to thrive when the country gets steep and the pack gets heavy.
Gear & Camp Setup
From choosing the right pack and layering system to building a reliable backcountry camp, we’ll walk you through the gear that matters and how to use it effectively.
Real Hunt Scenarios
You’ll step into situations that mirror the decisions you’ll face on the mountain — learning how to adapt when elk throw you curveballs.
By the end of camp, you won’t just understand elk hunting better — you’ll feel prepared, capable, and ready to execute when it counts.
THE EXPERIENCE
Elk Camp isn’t about sitting in a chair while someone talks at you. It’s about being in the field, shoulder to shoulder with seasoned hunters, breaking down real country, and learning by doing.
From the moment you arrive, you’ll be immersed in the rhythm of elk hunting. Mornings may start with glassing ridges as the sun hits the peaks, afternoons could mean practicing calling setups in timber, and evenings around camp are filled with stories, strategy, and lessons that don’t come from a screen or a book.
You’ll train in the same way you’ll hunt — with boots on, pack strapped, and eyes scanning the mountains. Every drill, every conversation, and every hike is designed to build confidence in your skills. And when you gather around the fire at night, you’ll connect with a community of hunters who share the same grit, drive, and respect for the backcountry.
This camp is more than information. It’s an experience that leaves you sharper, tougher, and better prepared for the season ahead.
